The Hub Trust officially started in 2013 as a non-Charitable Christian-based organisation providing housing in the community e.g.; emergency, homeless, elderly and the public in general. In addition, we provided spiritual, cultural, rehabilitation, counselling, health and wellness services through a whanau Manaaki-based culture.

He Tangata, He Tangata, He Tangata, Godly principles, Spiritual and Cultural Tikanga, Aroha, Whanau, Whakapapa, Kaitiaki, Mahi kai, Education, Health Wellbeing, Manaaki, to raise our values and standards knowing who we are and to serve our people and our community.

From 2013, the Hub Trust was involved with running the church, the House of God, at Depot Street, Rotorua. We supported the people who came to the church through counselling and community work as mentioned above. Other church communities came for support for distributing food parcels. The distribution of food has continued from the beginning until the present day, where food has been given to people in need in Rotorua, Ngongotaha, Maketu and Te Puke.

In 2018, the Hub Housing Trust was set up at 2A Ranolf Street, Rotorua which provided residential managed housing for the community. Initially housing men who were released from prison. They came to a communal hostel environment where they were familiar with being together and sharing facilities. It is a place to adapt from being institutionalised to learning whanaungatanga, their identity and mana, and taking responsibility for themselves and their behaviour.

Men were being housed (and later whanau) at this facility in a home environment where they experienced feeling safe, a sense of belonging and trust. Whanau flourished in this house where all ages from the elderly Tamariki all learned to live together in harmony. The Christian input was love, truth, respect and grace. They are loved and encouraged to be themselves.

Moreover, the culture of the residential housing enabled the residents to understand and experience whanaungatanga concepts and Christian input which was missing in their lives. Counselling was available to help these men deal with personal issues and rebuild their lives with their spouses, tamariki and whanau.

We have also provided mediation and advocacy on the men’s behalf and their whanau with Oranga Tamariki, Community Probation, Ministry of Social Development to enable them to move forward into independent living with their families.
